Weekend Forecast March 25-26-27, 2022

It's Oscars weekend, and congratulations go to all the nominees; especially Tony Award-winner Paul Tazewell (Hamilton) for his costume designs for West Side Story (and first African-American male designer nominated in the Best Costume Design category). Speaking of Academy Award nominees for costume design, the 12th annual UCLA Sketch to Screen Costume Design Panel takes place on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11am Pacific, and it's virtual this year. Register here.

Then its on to the Oscars themselves, the 94th Academy Awards broadcast live from The Dobly Theatre in Hollywood, on Sunday, March 27 at 8pm Eastern on ABC, with lighting design by Oscars veteran Bob Dickinson and scenic design by David Korins. “What’s kind of fascinating about my job is that there is no script for the evening. I sort of create the entire envelope for what will hopefully be some extraordinary, iconic, forever moments,” says Korins, in an interview with Architectural Digest, and who is best known for his work on Broadway (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and Beetlejuice), concert staging (Lady Gaga, Kayne West, Bruno Mars), and set design for the Emmy Award–winning Grease: Live! “We have made a portal that looks into the future. It has to do with an incredibly deep and incredibly forward-thinking sort of future-forward view. In that future, we trade in the currency of elegance and electricity.”
