Dig Into Digital Design Training At LDI, November 14-20, 2022

Digital imagery is more and more ubiquitous in our lives, from digital billboards and retail signage to stage productions and immersive exhibits and experiences. LDI, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, November 14-20, 2022, overlaps with its sister show, Digital Signage Experience (DSE), and has pertinent digital design training for attendees at both shows.

"We are very excited to be co-located with LDI this year," says David Drain, director, Event Programs, Digital Signage Experience. "The digital training offered at LDI ties in quite nicely with our conference and exhibitors, offering in-depth opportunities for those interested in content creation, projection mapping, and virtual production."

To capitalize on all that LDI has to offer in the digital design areas, let's start with the Individually ticketed sessions in the LDInstitute, including:

• xR & Virtual Production: Creating Immersive Experiences: Extended Reality and Virtual Productions are two of the hottest topics in broadcast and immersive experiences. At the center of many of these experiences are a combination of TouchDesigner, Unreal Engine, and Notch. Each of these three software programs deliver their strengths to a project, whether it’s TouchDesigner's unlimited flexibility and hardware integrations, Unreal Engine’s high-end rendering, or Notch’s rapid content creation workflows. In this course, take a dive into architecting xR or virtual production pipeline as well as how to set up these projects in practice. Led by Dylan Roscover, designer-founder, The Experiential Co.

Intro To Real-Time Content Creation For Immersive Experiences: The ability for users to interact with and change the content they are consuming has created a whole new landscape of experiences. Whether you're re-imagining Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo or building a beautiful experience in a corporate lobby, the addition of real-time generative and interactive content can't be left out. This course guides you through the basic principles of building real-time content in TouchDesigner and the kind of data sources most useful in building your experiences. Taught by Jack DiLaura,  an interactive artist, creative developer, and musician who specializes in creating generative graphics, interactive installations.

Projection Creation: The Basics With QLab: Join Zachary Borovay, director of Media Design, Visual Terrain, as he covers the basics of setting up and designing a show in Qlab. From determining and setting up your video surfaces, to content creation basics including masking, warping, animating ,and adding effects, Zak will cover everything you need to know to get started in projection design using this affordable Mac-based software.

Projection Mapping: How To Map 3D Surfaces: Zachary Borovay, director of Media Design, Visual Terrain, and KC Wilkerson, principal media designer, Disney Live Entertainment, lead a deep dive into projection mapping. Learn how to educate your clients or fellow artists on how to prepare for a projection mapping project, including how to measure or evaluate surfaces and prepare virtual 3D models for mapping. Zak and KC will discuss how to manipulate media for mapping as well as how to embrace the 3D physical surfaces to help enhance your story. This class is for anyone who wants to learn more about projection mapping but also anyone who wants to educate their clients on how to prepare for projection mapping.

Additional courses in the LDInnovation Conference include:

LED Screens: A Cross Section Between LED Screens and Advertising: After sundown, Times Square is as bright as day. We’ve all seen the viral videos of LED screens located on corners where sharks appear to burst through the building, water spills over, and even dinosaurs appear to be caged in. Screens are no longer simply advertising a brand logo or an upcoming sale. They are literally embracing the architecture and creating memorable artwork. In the world of digital signage, the line between art and commerce is blurred more than ever. Learn from thought leaders in the architainment industry about how you can use digital signage to deliver your message in a way that won’t soon be forgotten. Moderated by  Zachary Borovay, director of Media Design, Visual Terrain

• Digital Interactive Placemaking: A roundtable discussion on how the practice of Digital Placemaking through lighting has transformed dramatically, with technology such as addressable LED, sensors, projection, and advanced digital control systems pushing the boundaries of what is possible. A new industry is emerging that combines innovative lighting and fabrication techniques with new technologies traditionally used on the stage. The combination results in dynamic architectural centerpieces and interactive "light-art" installations that are being integrated into public and private spaces. Moderated by Robb Pope, founder, Digital Ambiance.

• AREA15: Building Immersive Experiences Using Projection-Mapped Technology: Learn how AREA15 brings visitors from spectator to participant by transforming their spaces into an interactive and fully immersive environment using 4K projection technology. JD Bouck, director of production at the immersive entertainment complex, addresses how he uses the AV and production technology throughout AREA15 to provide in-depth storytelling, curated content, and authentic connections to the millions of visitors who have walked through the doors since opening in September 2020. Learn how to use 4K projection mapping to create immersive experiences, and how to blend tech with creative to provide immersive entertainment.

Plus two special tours of immersive environments:

A tech tour of AREA15, the world’s first purpose-built immersive entertainment district offering live events, distinctive attractions, interactive art installations, extraordinary design elements, unique retail, ground-breaking technology, bars and eateries and much more. With a location in Las Vegas just minutes from the Strip, AREA15 offers a robust, ever-changing roster of concert events, art exhibitions, out-of-this-world nightlife and boundary-pushing production shows.
