Live Design’s “31 Days Of Plots and Light Plot Of The Week” series of articles has been named a finalist for the 2023 Folio: Eddie Awards. These awards recognize excellence in journalism in a variety of categories,: Live Design is a finalist in the Column / Blog > B2B > Technology category. The articles are written/produced by Ellen Lampert-Gréaux, Live Design creative director, and Hannah Kinnersley, Live Design content manager.
The winners will be announced at an awards gala at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, on Tuesday, October 24. Last year, Live Design was honored with three Folio: Eddie Awards.

Live Design prides itself on its deep roots and relationships with lighting designers. These designers work on a variety of projects throughout the year and throughout the world. And the lighting plot—the visual representation of how the lighting is designed and physically installed in the theatre or other venue—is the very heart of the lighting every project, from a small club with a live band to the biggest live events of the year. The series gives readers access to Tony-winning designs such as Life of Pi, massive concert tours such as Bruce Springsteen, and live for broadcast events including the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The lighting plot is how the lighting designer communicates to the design team, the lighting staff/crew; and it’s how the master electrician/technicians know how to install the lighting rig.
Since 2019, Live Design has provided a special focus on these lighting plots. Many readers are directly involved in different aspects of the lighting industry, and are interested in lighting plots: they illustrate how the designers are working; what products by which manufacturers are being used, and they serve as a blueprint to the production in question.
Lampert-Gréaux created the 31 Days of Plots concept in 2019, running one project every day in December 2019, like an advent calendar leading up to the New Year. She and the team reached out to 31 different lighting designers, asking to publish their plots. The concept was embraced by the designers, the entertainment lighting industry and readers. Its popularity was widespread and the concept for 31 Days Of Plots was repeated in 2020, 2021, and 2022.
31 days did not seem like enough! So, as the project reached its end on December 31, 2022, the team decided to continue the series weekly throughout 2023. This allows a larger scope of work with more lighting designers being represented. Lampert-Gréaux is now working with Kinnersley on the new Plot Of The Week series and they will once again publish 31 Days Of Plots in December 2023.
Live Design also strives to be inclusive and cover the work of designers from the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, as well as focus on the work of women, in what tends to be a male-dominated industry. As a result, series has created a strong sense of community for the entertainment lighting community, as expressed in this note from BIPOC lighting designer & project manager Ebony Madry, whose work was featured twice in the 2023 Plot Of The Week series: "I wanted to thank you so much for the features on Plot of the Week. Thank you for continuing to inspire and lift of younger designers in the industry. I truly appreciate you, your team, and all the work you have done through the years. Thank you is not nearly enough for everything you do!"
