Kullervo: Mikki Kunttu‎ Live On Facebook Saturday March 28

On Saturday, March 28, at 12:00 pm EDT, lighting designer Mikki Kunttu will be doing his second Facebook live keynote. “This will be the last one on this particular platform,” he says. “In the future, I will continue similar sessions on YouTube live. There will be further information about it soon. I will be happy to hear what you think!”

This time, the production he will be discussing is Kullervo, created for the Finnish National Opera & Ballet in 2015. Production credits include choreographer/stage director Tero Saarinen and costume designer Erika Turunen. The lighting, screen, and stage design was by Kunttu.

“Our collaboration with Tero Saarinen goes back 25+ years,” he explains. “The Finnish Opera & Ballet has been like a home base for me over the past decades. This state-of the art opera house is putting out world-class productions, and they are always reaching for new horizons. For me, Kullervo was also a celebration of these precious collaborations.” The piece was set to Kullervo (Symphony Op. 7), the most beautiful choral symphony by Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), and performed with a full orchestra and a large choir.
