A judging panel of entertainment professionals shortlisted Peter Leibold's design for Children of Babel for the Dance Award in the Theatre category in Live Design's 2020 Design Achievement Awards. Vote for the most outstanding projects now!
Peter Leibold's design featured custom-built lighting instruments and props to create a world of shadows that required the audience to lean in to participate. A single LED diode illuminated some scenes, while in others, 28 lights blasted into the audience's faces, enabling dancers to appear and disappear into pitch darkness. Sometimes dancers wielded battery-operated fluorescent light sticks as beacons in the darkness.
