Peter Leibold's design featured custom-built lighting instruments and props to create a world of shadows that required the audience to lean in to participate. A single LED diode illuminated some scenes, while in others, 28 lights blasted into the audience's faces, enabling dancers to appear and disappear into pitch darkness. Sometimes dancers wielded battery-operated fluorescent light sticks as beacons in the darkness.

“I found this remarkable to be confounding of all expectations, constantly pulling the eye into unexpected contortions and arresting you with its beauty. It really is an extraordinary set of images that keep defining space in all kinds of unexpected ways and that meditate quite beautifully on how lighting intersects with the human body. It's an incredibly cool design. I really love all of it.” Chris Jones, Theatre Critic, Chicago Tribune and a judge for the Design Achievement Awards
