BLMC Speaker Brian MacDevitt Nominated For A Tony

Broadway Lighting Master Classes speaker Brian MacDevitt has been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lighting Design of a Play for Fences.

I am thrilled to be nominated for Fences, says MacDevitt. “I can't wait to share my work and process in the BLMC lecture.” In his session at the BLMC, Visual Aids: Paintings And Photography For Inspiration And Communication In The Theatre (Tuesday, May 25), he discusses influences from outside of theatre that help to nourish and generate new ways of seeing and approaching design work. He will look at how the research informed and inspired Broadway shows including the Tony Award-winning design ofJoe Turner’s Come and Gone and this season’s Race and Fences.

MacDevitt already has eight Tony nominations, with wins in 2002 for the revival of Into the Woods, in 2005 for The Pillowman, and in 2007 for The Coast of Utopia (sharing the award with Kenneth Posner and Natasha Katz). He teaches lighting design at such schools as SUNY Purchase and New York University (NYU).
