To reflect on the creative, innovative moments of 2020 and to welcome the hope that the New Year brings, Live Design is conducting 31 Days Of Plots. Every day during the month of December 2020, we will highlight a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, and more.

"Our production of Marisol is one that ended up being prophetic," says lighting designer Nina Field. "It is a play that I think is incredibly relevant considering the events that transpired in the months following its last performance. During this production, we collaborated together to create a unified design to bring the director’s vision of a pre- and post-apocalyptic New York to the audience. Early in the process, we decided not to have masking and to use the entirety of the space, so I made sure that my light plot matched the geometry of the set. In that way, the scenery was fully symmetrical." Marisol was also in repertory with A Bright Room Called Day, which Field also designed.

"Debuting in mid-March, Marisol was one of the last productions in front of a live audience that was performed in New York," notes Field. "It was important to me not just as my senior project, but also as a statement of intent regarding myself both as a designer and a professional headed into a period of profound uncertainty."
