Super Bowl XLVIII 2014 Halftime Show Lighting

Always a challenging show, the Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show, featuring Bruno Mars with a guest shot by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, looked great with lighting designed by Bob Barhart of Full Flood in LA. "The rig was so spread out over five levels of the stadium and 400 linear feet per level," he explains. "You can’t really appreciate how difficult Super Bowl Halftime shows are to pull off, unless you have worked on a few.  Adding in the “challenges” of this years venue and weather took that difficulty to a whole new level. It didn’t help me that I lost headset communications to the FOH spots right before the show and never got them back. I would have preferred snow flurries at halftime. The lighting looks better with a little movement in the beams," Barnhart adds with a smile.

He also gives kudos to his crew: "These guys work in sub freezing temperatures for 10 days to get that system loaded in and working. There were a few days they could not uncoil the cable because it was frozen."
