Spike TV's Video Game Awards Revel in LEDs

Impact Video illuminated the set of Spike TV’s 3rd annual Video Game Awards with spectacular LED Video displays. This year’s set design was once again created by Bruce Rodgers of Venice, CA-based Tribe Design. The multi-level stage design relied heavily on video to create a variety of desired set looks.

This year’s event, held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on November 18, featured 420 Barco Ilite 6mm tiles in a 15 x 28 configuration to form a truly amazing center stage screen measuring 22 feet high by 41 feet wide. Surrounding either side of the stage were an additional 365 Barco Dlite 7 tiles to form 16 additional wing screens of various sizes.

Ian McDaniel of Orlando, FL-based Media Evolutions produced graphics content and video looks whereby animations would move seamlessly across the video screens throughout the entire set. In total, 17 LED screens consisting of 1,150 Barco tiles, driven by 21 D320 Processors with SDI inputs, brought the set to life; where even a bar area was set up with tables between the upper and lower level screens that allowed for the live audience to be part of the set.

Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, this year’s extravaganza was a star studded, action packed event featuring musical performances by 50 Cent, Def Leppard and Missy Elliott as well as show appearances by Charlize Theron, Keifer Sutherland, Jack Black, Vin Diesel, The Rock and more.

The 3rd Annual VGAs will premier this Saturday December 10, 2005 at 8:00pm on the Spike TV network.
