grandMA Rocks in Rio

For the second time the Rock in Rio Festival took place recently in Lisboa. About 360,000 people came to the venue in Bela Vista Park during five days of music where, for 14 hours a day, it was party time. The festival ground was therefore called the "City of Rock." All the while two grandMA full-size and a NSP worked in the background to control the lighting on the main stage.

On this “World Stage” some of the most well-known bands and artists of our time performed, including Shakira, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Carlos Santana, Roger Waters, Jamiroquai, and Sting. All in all the World Stage measured 262’ x 131’ . For its scenario it used 49,000’ of chain, 6,000 pieces for the spatial interlacing and 2,788’ of canvas.

Lighting designer Danny Nolan had the task to compose a show for each artists. To his aid came beside many other fixtures 41 Vari-Lite VL3000 Spots. The event was supported by NAN Som e Ilumincao Lda., MA Lighting’s distributor in Portugal. Rock in Rio will return to Lisboa in 2008.
