Christie Projectors Score For Los Angeles Lakers

Christie Projectors’ high performance 3-Chip DLP projectors have been selected to power the multimedia presentation introducing the LA Lakers basketball team at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The complete system features a unique 360° screen that briefly surrounds the circular scoreboard high above the stands, where images as large as 12 feet by 30 feet are projected by four Christie Roadie S12 DLP projectors. Other images are also projected onto the floor of the stadium as part of the program.

California-based AV Concepts selected the Christie projectors. "The seamlessly blended images on the screen, thrown from a distance of over 100 feet, demand an exceptional level of power, brightness, and performance reliability to achieve optimum results," remarks AV Concepts account executive Warren Tash. "Christie projectors are unsurpassed when it comes to making a powerful presentation worthy of a world-class team like the LA Lakers."

As the presentation ends, the flexible, silken screen surrounding the scoreboard gently "falls" from the sky onto the playing court, whereupon the famous Lakers Cheerleaders gather it up and take it backstage. TLC Creative Productions, which produces special effects for events, motion pictures, and music videos worldwide, designed the presentation.

"Working with the curved surfaces of the screen presents its own unique challenges, including the need to compensate for the curves, and the Christie projectors deliver every time," says Tash. "The presentation is only about four minutes long, but it is four thrilling minutes of high-intensity excitement that really pumps the audience up for the game."

"Audiences always want the best and the brightest in all their entertainment, and Christie projectors have consistently delivered upon those expectations," notes Gary Fuller, vice-president, Business Products, Christie. "The power, versatility and durability of Christie projectors allow them to be utilized in the widest range of installations possible. Christie and AV Concepts have been an unbeatable team for many years, and Staples Center represents another big win in our long and successful partnership."
