"Jesus Christ Superstar is more rock-opera than musical theater, with it’s sung-through rock score and no book scenes," says production designer Jason Ardizzone-West. "The design challenge was to create a world that was part concert design, part opera design, part architectural, part cinema. David Leveaux (the director) and I worked closely in the early phase of design with the thought of creating a space that was a hybrid between rock concert and passion-play."
