Last week, the Recording Academy announced that Eventide inventor Richard Factor and engineer Tony Agnello are the recipients of this year’s Technical GRAMMY Award.
For more than 45 years, Eventide has been recognized as an innovator in technologies that have pushed the boundaries of music recording, broadcast, and concert sound. From its scrappy beginnings in a New York basement in 1971, the company has grown to become one of the most legendary brands in pro audio.
With roots in signal processing hardware for studio recording—including the iconic H910, the world’s first pitch-changing device—the company’s innovations expanded into broadcast processors, live sound effects, software products, and even aviation devices.
Today, Eventide offers a host of outboard gear, stomp boxes, and plug-ins for studio, live sound, and broadcast; its products continue to shape the sound of today’s top hits and can be found on tour with artists ranging from Mary J. Blige to Ed Sheeran to Brad Paisley.
