By Design: David Rockwell At The Shed

production design The Shed

Wearing two hats, one as collaborating architect and one as production designer, David Rockwell proved very busy as The Shed opened on New York’s Westside adjacent to Hudson Yards in April. After co-designing this new arts complex as collaborating architect with lead architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Rockwell also crafted the scenic elements for Soundtrack of America, one of the opening events at The Shed, with five nights of concerts celebrating the impact of African American music on contemporary culture. Conceived and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Steve McQueen, the design team including Rockwell and Adam Stockhausen as production designers and Frank Oliva, associate production designer.
