31 Days of Plots: Miss Universe 2019

To celebrate the achievements of 2019 and to welcome all the prospects of 2020, Live Design is conducting 31 Days Of Plots. Every day during the month of December 2019, we will highlight a different lighting design, from across theatre, concert tours, corporate events, and more.

The 2019 Miss Universe pageant was broadcast on Fox, Sunday, December 8, 2019 from Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, GA. “Due to a very short schedule this year we need to develop a dynamic production look that could load in very quickly,” says lighting designer Bob Barnhart of 22 Degrees in Los Angeles. “The entire overhead rig is made up of 134 Vari-Lite VL2600 overhead with 56 Solaris flares peppered between them, a very large array of 237 PRG Icon Edges on the ground (which could be quickly placed during load-in) and 36 Claypaky Sharpies on four side trusses. This allowed us to load-in this 463-unit rig in two days. As a matter of fact we were focusing this rig on day two of the load-in.”
