LDI2017 CLIFTalks: Clifton Taylor, Light And The 4-Dimensioned Canvas

Noted dance lighting designer Clifton Taylor, whose recent dance design work has been commissioned in Russia, China, France, Chile, the UK, and Indonesia—as well as throughout the United States, curated the symposium, CLIFTalks at LDI2017, about the state-of-the-art of dance lighting, production, and touring. He is the resident designer for several NY-based contemporary dance companies and he has also designed works for the Boston Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet, ABT, Paul Taylor American Dance Theater, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and many others.

The format of the CLIFTalks comprises short, compelling talks by leading designers in the dance world as they share their insights and inspiration. In this video, Clifton Taylor discusses light and the 4-Dimensioned canvas.

Clifton Taylor (scenic and lighting designer) has created theatrical designs for Broadway as well as opera, theatre, and dance companies around the world. His designs have been commissioned for the repertories of the Mikhailovsky Theater, Russia; Sardono Dance Theater, Indonesia; American Ballet Theater, US; Scottish National Ballet, UK; the Ballet Company of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil; Maggio Danza, Italy,; Ballet de Lorraine, France, as well as other major companies in Europe, Asia, and South America. Taylor is particularly interested in the development of new operas and ballets. This season, he has had commissions in the US, the United Kingdom, France, Chile, Argentina, Japan, Indonesia, China, and Singapore. He lives in New York and has lectured at New York University, Boston University, The Royal University of Fine Arts in Cambodia, the Juilliard School ,and professional conferences: LDI and USITT, and the Broadway Lighting Master Classes on the subject of light and color. He has been the recipient of two major grants from the Asian Cultural Council for theatrical education and cultural development in the performing arts.
