Abe Jacob, creative consultant for the Broadway Sound Master Classes, has announced that Susan Stroman will be a special guest at the post-show Q&A following Young Frankenstein at the Hilton Theatre on Friday, May 16. “We are honored to have director Susan Stroman coming to speak,” notes Jacob.
Stroman is the toast of Broadway: this Tony Award-winning American stage director, choreographer, film director, and performer, is both director and choreographer of the musical, Young Frankenstein. She first collaborated with Mel Brooks in 2001 on the award-winning musical, The Producers, which won a record number of 12 Tony Awards—including two for Stroman as choreographer and director. In 2005, she made her directorial debut as a feature filmmaker with a big screen adaptation of the show.
She also choreographed as well as directed the three-part "dance play" Contact, which opened at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theatre in the fall of 1999, and later transferred upstairs to the larger Vivian Beaumont Theatre (where it was reclassified as a musical, and won the 2000 Tony Award for Best Musical). Her ballet, Double Feature, has been revived in this spring’s season at the New York City Ballet. Stroman also received Tony Awards for best choreography of Crazy for You, Show Boat, and Contact.
