Live Design Announces Winners Of Free Passes To BLMC & BSMC

Eight lucky attendees to the 2006 USITT Conference and Stage Expo in Louisville, KY, received complimentary passes to the Broadway Lighting Master Classes (BLMC) or Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) from Live Design.

Live Design held a raffle at its cocktail reception during the show, giving away six passes to the Live Design Master Classes, which will be held the week of May 19-24, 2006 at NYU in New York City. The recipients of BLMC passes are: Kyle A. Matthews, assistant professor, lighting design at Ball State University; Sabrina Hamilton, artistic associate at Towson University Theatre; Jonathan Allender-Zivic, Rocky Mountain College; and Jason J. McDaniel, technical director at University of Montana. Matthew Weber, auditorium manager at Walled Lake School, received a pass to the BSMC. Curtis L. Mortimore, technical director at Ball State University, received a full-conference pass for the BLMC and BSMC.

Also during USITT, Live Design donated two free Master Classes passes to raise money for The ESTA Foundation’s Behind the Scenes fund. The Behind the Scenes raffle, conducted by Bill Sapsis, was held at 2pm on Saturday, April, 1, 2006. The BSMC pass was won by Matthew McKinney from San Diego State. Tim Bachman, director of sales & marketing for A.C.T Lighting, won a BLMC pass and A.C.T will use this pass to mentor a student. Other companies that have signed on to generously mentor students are: Meyer Sound, d&b, ETC, and Vari-Lite.

As a corporate mentor, companies give deserving students the opportunity to attend the 2006 Master Classes by underwriting their submission fees. Sponsors can either underwrite students of their own choice or Live Design will match the sponsorship with students requesting aid. Any manufacturers interested in participating in this worthy endeavor should click here for more information.

Other recent recipients of free registration passes to the BSMC include Nancy Tobin, freelance sound designer and coach instructor in sound design at the Université du Québec à Montréal; Veronika Vorel, Yale School of Drama - MFA in Sound Design candidate; and Marc Schwartz, freelance sound designer.

The Live Design Master Classes are produced by Live Design magazine in conjunction with the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. The BLMC, with creative consultant Jules Fisher, will take place May 22-24 at the Skirball Center for the Arts, which is part of the Helen and Martin Kimmel University Center.
