Theatre Technician Need For Mesa Arts Center

The City of Mesa, AZ, is seeking a theatre technician for the recently opened Mesa Arts Center.

Position: Theater Technician
Salary: ($30,945.60-$45,843.20 annually)

Duties: The City of Mesa, Arizona, recently opened the new Mesa Arts Center in the heart of downtown Mesa. The $94 million project sits on a beautifully landscaped, seven-acre site, and includes four theatres, five art galleries, 14 visual and performing arts classrooms, a lecture hall, administrative offices, and a central public plaza for outdoor concerts and cultural events.

The new facility features a 1,600-seat Lyric Theater, a 550-seat Repertory Theater, a 200-seat Playhouse Theater, and a 99-seat Studio Theater. It is expected that the box office will annually handle 300,000 - 500,000 tickets, up to $5 million in sales, and 600 - 800 performances annually.

A Theater Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment related to backstage operations of the Mesa Arts Center. Employees perform a wide variety of skilled tasks in advancing performances and events, and ensuring technical and logistical needs are properly attended to including: inspecting, testing, and modifying, as required, all equipment prior to performance to ensure compliance with all health and safety codes; consulting with performers, their representatives, and staff on issues related to equipment functions; participating in the rigging and strike of theatrical lighting, sound, and overall stage setup for a variety of productions and events such as touring and local theatrical productions, symphonies, operas, dance companies, touring pop shows, recitals, rock and roll, and other presentations and productions; assembling or constructing devices to achieve special effects; organizing event setup; and supervising temporary contract personnel and/or volunteers as needed.

Requirements: Requires any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED, completion of technical training or apprentice program, and good (1 - 3 years) journey-level experience in one of the following three areas: audio, electrical, and/or carpentry, with familiarity of the other two areas. Knowledge of analog and digital mixing consoles, microphone setup for vocal and instrumental, theatrical rigging, and computer-based audio distributing systems is preferred.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License by hire date. A successful completion of a background investigation is required.
