Just a few weeks on from its launch, the “Industry Jobs” page on the website of lighting supplier White Light (open for anyone to post jobs in any area of backstage life, free of charge) is already proving hugely popular, with a wide range of jobs advertised and some vacancies already filled.
One recent posting was something of a “full circle” journey for White Light: the company was founded from the Royal Court Theatre by a team including current White Light chairman John Simpson, and the Royal Court’s then head of lighting, the late Andy Phillips, and his deputy, the late Rory Dempster.
Now the Royal Court is looking for a new head of lighting, and chose the White Light Industry Jobs page to advertise the vacancy, which has opened up following the decision of the Court’s long-standing head of lighting, Johanna Town, to stand down in order to pursue more freelance projects.
“It was touching to see that advert appear,” comments White Light’s managing director, Bryan Raven. “Given White Light’s origins at the Royal Court, something still reflected in the company’s name, which came from the ‘white light’ style that Andy established in his years there. Jo has been a good friend of all of us at White Light for many years: we wish her well in this new phase of her career, and look forward to working with her on many projects in the future,” he adds. “And we hope that our recently launched Industry Jobs page will help the Court track down an equally talented and worthy successor to help them maintain the high quality lighting that they have become known for through the years.”
