Weekly Wound Up: Josh Weisberg/Drones/Grindle To Leave USITT

It was a busy week, with such news as David Grindle leaving his post as executive director of USITT, hot on the heels of a good show in Baltimore. With USITT since 2010, Grindle is set to exit on June 13, 2022. USITT president Carolyn Satter says, "David has had an incredible impact on the Institute: growing and diversifying the membership, developing partnerships around the world, conceiving new programs and scholarships that continue to make an impact each day. David’s work has laid the foundation for a bright future for USITT for years to come."

Also in the news, industry expert Josh Weisberg, one of the founders of ScharffWeisberg, which morphed into the late WorldStage, is taking on a new role as Senior VP of Strategy at 4Wall Entertainment. An interesting move. On the eve of this announcement, Weisberg was the guest on Marcel Fairbairn's Geezers of Gear podcast. Worth a listen.

When another industry veteran, Nils Thorjussen of Verge Aero and his 'Nerdy Drone Engineers' appeared on AGT Extreme, they won Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer. Amazing, and hats off to Nils and the team as they go straight to the final.

The video above is additional footage released by AGT with a second beautiful drone show by Verge Aero.

And speaking of drones, Intel put on a pretty spectacular drone show during LDI2019 outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Take a look:
