PROVIDENCE, RI: Spaceage today released Visibox 6.0, and with it, video joins the lighting desk. A lighting operator can now patch Visibox as a fixture on grandMA, Hog, Eos, ChamSys, Avolites, or QLC+ and run it from cues over sACN or Art-Net, the same protocols already running the rig. The console picks songs and clips, runs transport, and rides intensity, volume, and color, while the show itself stays built in Visibox. In a church, school, or small venue, one person can now run lights and video from the same desk. Visibox 6.0 is available now for macOS and Windows.
What Visibox puts on the screens
Visibox is a live visuals app for bands, DJs, worship teams, and venues, and it works the way a sampler works: clips, which can be videos, images, live cameras, or audio-reactive visualizers, are assigned to triggers and played live. In 6.0 it plays multiple clips together for the first time. A second clip layers on top instead of cutting off the first, and each song's Poly Mode decides how the clips share the frame: blended over each other, tiled side by side, or split into stripes and spots.
Multiple screens and outputs
A show can spread across multiple screens in rows and columns, each with its own scale, rotation, and flip, laid out visually in the new Canvas settings. Visibox can send its output to other places, all in Beta: NDI to any receiver on the network, SDI through Blackmagic DeckLink cards, and Syphon on Mac or Spout on Windows straight into OBS, Resolume, VDMX, MadMapper, or TouchDesigner without a capture card. NDI and SDI carry audio. Visibox can also record its output, with audio, to a video file. Under the hood, 6.0 runs on a rebuilt output engine that distributes pixels to every screen and every output at the same time.
Who else can play it
The lighting desk is not the only way in. Performers play Visibox from a MIDI controller or a Stream Deck, and Visibox Remote apps for iOS and Android are out now on the App Store and Google Play, so a sound engineer can pick songs, fire clips, and adjust the visuals from a phone or tablet at front of house.
A song can also play itself. With Song Timelines (Beta), a song's clips, cameras, and visualizers fire on their own at the right moment, and the timeline can send MIDI so a guitar rig changes patch at the right bar. Visibox 6.0 also takes OSC from apps like TouchOSC, QLab, Resolume, and Max/MSP, and works with Bitfocus Companion, Node-RED, and Touch Portal.
For the band on stage
Visibox 6.0 is built to sit in the rig with everything else the band brings. Setlists keep several running orders in one Project, so a band can reorder a set without deleting anything. Visibox plays multitrack backing tracks with each stem on its own output, and 6.0 adds multichannel ASIO audio on Windows (Beta) for interfaces with more than eight channels. Lyrics and chord charts (Beta) appear on their own display where the band can read them, pasted in from ChordPro, OnSong, chords over words, Nashville numbers, and other formats.
Also in 6.0
ISF shader effects now run alongside Visibox's built-in effects, so the ISF effects already out there work on any clip. Audio-reactive effects can follow the Visibox mix, a microphone, a line input, or the sound coming out of another app. Overlays put a logo or a lower third over everything, for a whole Project, one song, or one clip. Every window in Visibox has been rebuilt on one consistent design, and Visibox launches and opens big Projects faster.
Quotes
"In a lot of rooms, the person on the lighting desk is also the person who has to make the screens work," said Jeff Robbins, founder of Spaceage. "Visibox 6 lets them do both from the same desk. Patch it like a fixture, put the video in the cues, and the screens follow the show along with the lights."
"The new Visibox version looks very promising," said Markus Baier, producer and DJ for the Dennis & Jesko Band. "The new version looks significantly cleaner and less cluttered! Looks great! We're going to test it out in a real live scenario right away before our next tour starts in November!"
