Study: "Interesting" Entertainment Tech Jobs Don't Need A Degree

A recent study confirms what entertainment professionals have always known, some of the most interesting and well-paid jobs don’t require a degree. At a time when the average cost of a four-year degree is more than $25,000 a year, jumping into a career which pays well and also has a certain amount of flexibility to study part time is attractive, although some professionals may opt out of higher education altogether, as 69% of the respondents believe college will become less important for high-paying jobs in the future.

In addition to salary, researchers looked into the most interesting jobs that people were surprised to find did not require a degree, and two entertainment technology jobs made the top five: audio/video technicians and sound engineering technicians.

And these jobs had a projected growth rate of much faster than average and faster than average respectively, which means more opportunities, and more job security.

The average pay for a sound engineer is around $52,000 a year, but can rise up to $95K for those in certain positions, average salary for an AV engineer is $85K, although A/V technicians working in retail and the home entertainment market make less.
