Studio Colors Light Up the 'Knight'

Every summer a medieval festival draws 100,000 visitors to Prince Luitpold's Kaltenberg Castle, near Munich, Germany. Amidst the merriment of fools, jugglers, winches and medieval marketplace activities, the popular highlight is the Kaltenberg Tournament of Knights.

The competition of horsemanship and weaponry takes place in a 10,000-seat arena. This year, from July 2-18, the Studio Color 575 automated wash luminaire enhanced the festivites. LD Martin Heining of Rain Age GmbH in Germany used 8 Studio Colors along with some conventional fixtures.

Says Heining, "We chose the HES Studio Color 575 because we needed very quiet lamps which are not disturbing to the horses while they are running through the big doors. We also needed a smooth CMY color-mixing system and the high light output. Another argument for the Studio Color is the operation safety. These are reasons why High End Systems products are the first choice for this production and Rain Age GmbH Company."

Operator Cris Schulz selected the Wholehog II console for control. Oli Haas was crew chief.
