Space is still available in a series of courses taught by industry experts Richard Cadena, Vicki Claiborne, Steve Irwin, and Richard Wolpert during The ESTA Foundation's Mid-Atlantic Training Week, January 29-February 2, 2007. Designed for lighting designers, programmers, electricians, and technicians, you can register for either the full week of courses or individual days.
The courses will be held from 10am-5pm at Prince George's Community College in Largo, MD (12 miles from Washington DC) and sponsored by The ESTA Foundation's Seminars and Training Committee and Theatre and Entertainment Technology at Prince George's Community College. Monday, January 29 and Tuesday, January 30:
Entertainment Electrician Seminar
Taught by Richard Cadena
This seminar will help you understand electrical theory (including three-phase power, power factors, and harmonics), power distribution (including transformer specifications, overcurrent protection, grounding, and GFCIs), equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and lighting and power system documentation. The seminar will also cover data distribution networks, including Ethernet and DMX512. Mastering this subject matter is essential for success as an entertainment electrician, and attending this seminar is one big step toward gaining that mastery.
Wednesday, January 31:
Basic Electricity for Theatre and Stage Power Distribution
Taught by Richard Wolpert
This course will cover basic concepts of electricity and how it relates to power distribution in the entertainment industry. It will include the theory and practice of entertainment power distribution, survey of the equipment, cabling, routines, safety considerations, and regulatory issues.
Thursday, February 1 AND Friday, February 2:
Jands Vista Console Training
Taught by Steve Irwin
This one-day course will include basic programming and operation of the Jands Vista lighting console. Seminar highlights include: patching, programming using pen tablet, powerful transitions in timeline views, easy step-by-step playback, use of FX engines, and other advanced options, and the download and use of the PC version called VistaPC.

Martin Maxxyz Console Training:
Taught by Vickie Claiborne
This course includes a basic introduction to the use of the Maxxyz lighting console. Beginning level topics range from patching, building and playing cues, topresets, groups, building chases, simple effects, playback functions, working with MSD Visualizer, using effects, and backing up the show.

Fees: $1,000/ full week or $225/day
ESTA, IATSE, USITT members: $950/ full week or $215/day
