Scottish College Opts for Aviom

Leading professional audio distributor Autograph Sales has supplied a selection of Aviom products for installation in a brand new recording studio complex at the James Watt College in Greenock. This is the only Scottish education centre to be awarded the Design Certified Training Location honor.

Glasgow-based pro audio solution specialist Mediaspec was appointed to plan and carry out the complete AV installation in the state-of-the-art sound recording suites. The 12 fully fitted studios are split into two separate linked groups of six, with each group sharing an additional live room and a vocal booth.

Mediaspec approached Autograph Sales after discovering the Aviom digital networking solution and subsequently purchased two A-16Ds, twelve AN-16/i input modules and two AN-16/o output modules, which were installed around the studios as part of a 'digital snake' system. Unlike a traditional analogue audio snake, the new system offers a splitting facility in the digital domain, avoiding the need for huge racks of splitters, as well as providing easy to install CAT5 cable as a substitute for heavy multicore.

"As the largest college in Scotland, we felt it was essential to be able to offer our students the very latest technology," says Chris Bradley, the college's head of music and performing arts. "With these additional new studios we had to think about the simplest way to network between them. Aviom has been the perfect solution as well as a great new digital development that the students can learn from."
