The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film is pleased to announce that Scott C. Parker has joined its MFA/BFA design faculty to teach lighting. Boasting 26 years of experience in the entertainment field, Parker has credits ranging from Radio City Music Hall to Town Hall. Parker has also worked in television with work appearing on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, TNN, CNBC, overseas television, Good Morning America, 48 Hours, and Live with Regis Philbin.
According to Parker, "This is an exciting time for the university. Johnny Carson gifted over $9 million for the renovation and expansion of the theatre and film programs. Of that, $1 million is set aside as an endowment specifically dedicated towards keeping film, lighting, and sound technology current. If just 5% were garnered from the account," Parker says, "That's fifty-thousand dollars a year towards keeping the film, design, and technical equipment up to date."
Parker's recent activities include: teaching design and technology at Pace University; creating and producing the Stage Lighting Super Saturday seminars with Sonny Sonnenfeld; training New York City theatre teachers; and serving as the Chair for the USITT New York Area Section.
Paul Steger, director of the Johnny Carson School, adds, "We are very excited that Scott will be joining us. The University's priority is to bring the best training possible to our students. Scott's vast experience in the theatre and television world will bring many opportunities to both our undergraduate and graduate students. Scott's annual stage lighting seminars in New York and his association with lighting equipment manufacturers will undoubtedly be avenues into the profession for our students."
Parker holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatrical Design & Technology from Brooklyn College and has completed additional studies at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, The Studio School of Stage Design (formerly the Lester Polokov Studio), The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and at Bennington College, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree.
