Richard Bugg Presented With USITT Distinguished Achievement Award In Sound Design

Digital Products Solutions Architect Richard Bugg was presented with a Distinguished Achievement Award in Sound Design from USITT last week at the 2024 edition of the conference in Seattle. The Distinguished Achievement Awards honor individuals who have established meritorious career records in specific fields of expertise in any area of design or technology in the performing arts or entertainment industry.

“It’s an amazing honor,” said Bugg. “I’ve attended most all of the award ceremonies and been very much a fan of those people who have won the award in the past, so it’s quite humbling to be given the award.”

In his role at Meyer Sound, Bugg is responsible for developing solutions to meet demanding artistic requirements for Meyer Sound customers. For the past two decades, Richard has been working with digital audio show control and immersive sound design for live performance. His formal training was in music instrumental performance and composition. His previous experiences include touring sound mixer, technical writer, and Digital Products Tech Support Manager. His current work for Meyer Sound is focused on the user interface implementation for digital audio networking. Bugg is also the ProAV/Milan Work Group Chair at Avnu Alliance.

“Richard has been at the forefront of new technology and industry trends since he started and continues to be a bastion for creativity and technological advancement for the betterment of the end user,” said Senior Technical Support Specialist Josh Dorn-Fehrmann when introducing Bugg at the award ceremony. “Richard likes to say he is an advocate for the end user, and he has spent his lifetime trying to make the products that he has helped create easier and more user-friendly.”
