PID Test Drives DL3

Projected Image Digital (PID) is staging two showcase events to highlight the new High End DL3 Digital Light Engine before of PLASA 2008. The DL3 sessions will be held at PID’s west London HQ on Tuesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 31, and the following week from Tuesday, August 5 to Thursday, August 7.

“The event offers the chance for professionals from all areas of the industry who are interested in the latest visual technology to get hands-on and check out this high output, reposition-able video projector in a relaxed and unpressured environment,” explains PID’s David March.

The DL3’s key features include high contrast 2000:1 ratio video black and a unique “collage generator’” for seamless edge blending between images. It has a 6500 lumen 3-chip LCD projector, SDI input and output and curved surface support for shape and distortion correction when projecting onto concave and other non-flat surfaces. There is also an onboard Sony IR camera and integrated media server containing over 1400 lighting-optimised content files.

PID’s presentation and DL3 Test Drive will be programmed by Mexican artist, producer, lighting, and set designer Tupac Martir. He brings a wealth of diversity and work experience to the equation, and has worked at the Mexican Opera House in Mexico City, as an art director for MTV Latin America and VH1, in theatre and in dance (with Joaquin Cortes), and on TV and live events projects in Mexico, the US, and UK. As a trained user of High End and Avolites consoles, Catalyst and the DL2 and DL3, his understanding of the products and their applications and potential is invaluable. “We’re extremely excited to have Tupac onboard for these sessions,” confirms March.

The presentation will feature DL Fixtures, Catalyst V4 digital media servers, Beamover automated yoke projectors, High End’s Showpix high power LED wash luminaires with programmable high intensity graphic display, and High End’s Showgun automated luminaire.
