Philips Electronics Receives EMMY® Award For UHP™ Lamp System Technology

Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has received an Emmy® Award for its UHP™ lamp technology for "Excellence in engineering creativity in the area of lighting solutions for large screen TVs.”

The National Television Academy recognized Philips’ Ultra High Performance (UHP) lamp for its contribution to large screen TVs by bringing lighting solutions that have long life, high brightness, stable picture quality, and guaranteed system reliability.

The Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering was presented to Erik Bouts, President and CEO of Philips Lighting USA, at The National Television Academy Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards Ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

"We are honored to receive this Emmy for our UHP™ technology and we would like to share this award together with our customers who have shown their trust and confidence in us as their partner," said Erik Bouts. "Especially over the last couple of years, we have experienced tremendous dynamics in the market for large display solutions. As market leader in offering lighting solutions for Micro Display-Projection TV (MD-PTV), we want to bring new and improved technologies to market which are advanced, designed around the needs of our customers and easy to experience for consumers. We have managed to produce a lamp system which is unique and unmatched by any competitor, giving Philips a very large market share in this segment.”

Together with our customers we have been able to successfully market projection TV as an attractive display technology for consumers. We are proud to see that our lighting solutions have made a significant contribution in this respect. The fact that this now has been recognized also by an Emmy® Award is very rewarding for Philips as well as our customers."

The UHP™ technology was developed by Philips Research Center in Aachen, Germany. In the early 90’s, the technology was successfully introduced in front projection. At the same time, the first developments in MD-PTV started. Over the past 10 years the market for digital projection has increased dramatically. Especially the market success of MD-PTV from 2003 onwards has had an enormous impact on the acceptance of the UHP™ technology within large screen display solutions.
