On March 8 & 9, 2002 PERA, the Production Equipment Rental Association will host a Midwest regional trade-show at the Essanay Studio, in Chicago. The event will feature about two-dozen major equipment suppliers, showing their latest gear in an informal yet informative, hands-on setting. Our current list of likely exhibitors includes: Arriflex (both camera and lighting), Panavision Chicago, Fletcher Chicago, Canon Broadcast, Angeniuex, Anton Bauer, Cartoni, O’Connor, Scorpio, Kino Flo, Lightning Strikes, Mole Richardson, Barbizon, Matthews Studio Equipment MSE, American Grip, Lee Filters, and Power Gems. Later in January we will be able to provide a more comprehensive list of exhibitors.
Hands-On Chicago will provide an opportunity for the regional community to see some of the most current equipment used in feature film, television and commercial production. Key people will be present from each vendor company to demonstrate the equipment, answer questions and take suggestions back to the factory. Some of the vendors plan to hold seminars on specific pieces of equipment. PERA will seek the involvement and support of other associations, unions and guilds as well as trade publications to encourage and enhance the educational aspect of the Hands-On shows.
The trade show will open be late afternoon and early evening on Friday and all day Saturday. There will be no charge to attend. This is the first regional trade show produced by PERA. PERA’s long-term goal is to host regional trade shows, using this format, one to three times per year, and to move the show around to other regional production centers. Potential sites for future shows are S. Florida, N. Florida, Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, New York City, Toronto and Vancouver.
