Taking place Sunday September 11 to Wednesday September 14 at Earls Court, London, PLASA 2005 is Europe’s definitive exhibition for professionals within the entertainment, event, corporate, architectural, and installation industries.
More than 300 companies are committed to making PLASA 2005 a solutions-led event; they will roll out over 1,000 new products and services designed to push existing technical and creative possibilities further. Two show floors will be packed with new ideas in audio, lighting, AV, rigging, system integration, engineering and effects. Visitors will see products being professionally demonstrated, learn how they can be used, and talk to the creative teams behind them. This year, there is an Architectural Audio & Visual area for companies who specialize in architectural lighting, installed audio, safety systems, and AV solutions; it is located on the Top Deck, part of the redesigned second floor that includes a purpose-built seminar theatre and industry bookshop.
For the 2005 PLASA Awards for Innovation, the entry criteria has been adjusted to filter out products that are simply developments of previous entries. Additionally, with the demand for energy efficient technologies, the organizers are re-introducing an award for environmental impact. Awards judging panel chairman James Eade says, "Products can be nominated where owners can demonstrate a clear strategic success in areas such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, a concerted effort to reduce harmful materials in manufacture (above and beyond that required for RoHS compliance) or similar environmental gains."
Established more than 15 years ago, the Awards have a reputation for tapping into the latest trends as many previous winners have become industry-standards. Products nominated for the 2005 Awards for Innovation will be displayed in the Innovation Gallery–a high-profile area at the exhibition entrance. The eight winners will be announced in a major awards ceremony on Monday September 12th.
The 2005 Seminar Program sees another new development with the introduction of a series of free debate-led sessions in which controversial subjects will be discussed by a panel of experts in front of an active audience. The 2005 Seminar Program features technical workshops providing practical hands-on learning, sessions addressing some of the main issues faced by the industry, and events offering a rare chance to hear from people who have made the industry what it is today.
