Master Class Attendees To See Gypsy On Broadway

One of the highlights of this year's BLMC (Broadway Lighting Master Classes) and BSMC (Broadway Sound Master Classes) will be the Broadway revival of Gypsy at the Shubert Theatre on Thursday, June 26. Starring Bernadette Peters (following in the footsteps of such great actresses as Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, and Tyne Daly), this revival reminds audiences of the importance of Gypsy in the history of the American musical. It has a great score and great characters, based on the life of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. The musical reveals how she, and her sister, June Havoc, were pushed into show business by their indomitable mother, Rose. Set in the 1920s and 30s, Gypsy is a powerful and funny tale set against a background vividly depicting a bygone era of American show business.

The design team for Gypsy features Anthony Ward (scenic/costume design), Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer (lighting design), and Acme Sound Partners (sound design). Hair design is by David Brian Brown. Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer will discuss their lighting design during the BLMC, and the performance will be followed by a post-show discussion in the theatre.

The BLMC will take place June 25-27, followed by the inaugural version of the BSMC (Broadway Sound Master Classes) June 28-29, and Entertainment Design's EDDY Awards on Friday evening, June 27. All events will be held at the John Jay College Theatre in Manhattan.
