Martin Professional Introduces Companion Mobile App-Based Lighting Fixture Configuration & Diagnosis Tool

NORTHRIDGE, CA — HARMAN Professional Solutions, the global leader in audio, video, control, and lighting systems, has announced the launch of Companion Mobile, the app-based version of Martin’s popular Companion fixture management, firmware upload and stand-alone programming tool. It is compatible with Martin NFC (Near Field Communication)-enabled fixtures, including MAC Viper XIP with many more fixtures planned for the future. This free app is available for iOS and Android mobile devices.

While similar to the Companion Desktop application, Companion Mobile utilizes NFC to establish wireless communications to further simplify and ease fixture configuration. The advantage of the NFC interface is that fixtures can be configured without the need to power them on. Even when fixtures are still sitting inside their flightcase, a simple tap of a smartphone against the fixture’s display is all that’s needed to configure fixtures.

Companion Mobile seamlessly synchronizes with Martin’s library over the Internet, eliminating the need for manual downloads. Additionally, it automatically synchronizes with the Martin-made GDTF files on the GDTF share. This provides access to all fixture details such as DMX Modes, DMX Channel Listings, Gobo Loadouts and more. GDTF files can be exported directly from Companion for use with any GDTF-compatible software.

"Thanks to the valued suggestions and feedback we receive from our incredible LD community, adding this capability has been a high priority as it truly is a game-changer” said Wouter Verlinden, Product Manager for Martin Professional Creative LED, Lighting & Control. “NFC was the perfect protocol to utilize because we could give just about anyone with a phone or mobile device, the capability to access and manage their fixtures with just a tap, without even needing to power them on.”

HIGHLIGHTS:

FIXTURE CONFIGURE

Allows all fixture settings to be entered with a single tap. Just enter any combination of settings and start tapping fixtures to get them configured.

FIXTURE CHECK

Offers a convenient way to diagnose fixtures when returning to the warehouse. Tap fixtures one by one and the app will inform you of errors or warnings. Easily collect data from multiple fixtures in a standard CSV file to get a full overview of your fixtures and all can be accomplished without powering up fixtures.

FIXTURE ACTION

Allows starting simple fixture actions such as running SelfTest sequences, resetting to factory defaults, and more. Simply tap all fixtures, while still inside their flightcase, to get them quickly reset to factory defaults.

GDTF VIEW & EXPORT

Allows browsing of all Martin-made GDTF files to look up fixture details such as DMX Modes, Channel Functions, Gobo Images, and more. GDTF files can easily be exported from the app for easy use on any software using GDTF.
