LightWire Opens Doors In Seattle

LightWire, Inc., Seattle’s newest architectural lighting design firm, has officially opened its doors for business. Founders Michael Sherer, formerly of J. Miller & Associates, and Susan Rhodes and Denise Simpson, both formerly of Lumena Lighting Design, are combining their expertise to serve the architectural design community.

"It was a natural fit," says Sherer. "Our varied experience in architecture, engineering, and theatre gives us the broadest possible base from which to practice lighting design. We bring a balanced perspective, based on our extensive work on large corporate, hospitality, retail mixed-use, educational, residential, healthcare and civic projects."

LightWire’s current client list includes Arai/Jackson Architects & Planners, Zimmer Gunsel Frasca, LMN Architects, Callison Architecture, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Gordon Walker Architecture, Dynamikspace, and Starbucks.

Rhodes has over 15 years experience in lighting design, with a background in both architecture and engineering. Her past projects include the Cinerama Theatre Renovation, F5 Network Headquarters, Casey Family Program Headquarters Renovation, UnionBay Headquarters, and the University of Washington Oceanography Building.

Sherer has been active in the field since 1984. Some of his projects have been the Seatac Relighting Project, St. James Cathedral Renovation, Washington State Convention and Trade Center, Pacific Place in Seattle, The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, and Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu.

Simpson has been involved in many aspects of the lighting design industry for over 20 years. Her projects include the Lowry Wyatt Building, Lakeridge Corporate Campus, Boeing Commercial Airplane Headquarters, University Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Renovation, Cedar River Watershed Education Center in Bellevue, and the Everett Transit Station. Senior designer Debbie Voyce and designer Gunda Lunde are also part of Lightwire.
