Getting away from fossil fuels and moving toward renewable energies is a challenge for the live events industry but there are now viable options. A good example of this is pop-star Billie Eliish, who partnered with nonprofit organization REVERB and used solar-powered, intelligent battery systems for her headlining set at Lollapalooza in Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois in August 2023.
The zero-emission battery systems used at the festival by Eilish were developed by Neel Vasavada (who is speaking in the subject at LDI 2023-see below) and Overdrive Energy Solutions and powered by a temporary solar farm to reduce the use of diesel-powered generators, which have a negative impact on the environment by producing pollutants and greenhouse gas.
