Robert Mokry is co-owner and CFO of LightParts, a company he started in 2004 with Don Pugh, as the industry's first freestanding parts and repair center that was not a rental company or manufacturer. LightParts recently celebrated 21 years of business and is still going strong.
Live Design: Can you describe yourself in less than 50 words?
Robert Mokry: 37-year veteran/survivor of the entertainment lighting business.
LD: What was your training/education/career path?
RM: Richard Belliveau hired me in 1988 at Blackstone Audio/Visual, which became High End Systems. I grew up professionally in the automated lighting business and saw it all happen.
LD: What are you doing at LDI 2025 - details on session or class?
RM: The Care And Feeding Of Automated Lights*: this session is appropriate for anyone who owns or maintains automated lights.
LD: Biggest challenge of your career to date?
RM: Surviving the pandemic, personally and professionally.
LD: Advice for the next generation?
RM: You have two ears and one month for a reason. Listen at least twice as much as you speak. Get people you admire and want to be like to tell you what they know. You'll be surprised how much they want to share info with up and comers.
