Julio Himede Earns Emmy Award Nomination For The 65th Annual Grammy Awards

NEW YORK – Julio Himede, the founder of design firm Yellow Studio, has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special category. The nomination is for the production design for The 65th Annual Grammy Awards, which took place at Los Angeles’ Crytpo.com Arena on 5 February. The nomination marks Julio’s second Emmy Award nomination following his work with the Grammy Awards in 2022.

Recognizing the voices of performers, songwriters, producers, engineers and all music professionals, the GRAMMY Awards is music’s only peer-recognized accolade and highest achievement. Winners from this year’s ceremony included Harry Styles who won Album of the Year and Beyonce who won a record-breaking 32nd Grammy Award. The 65th GRAMMY Awards marks Julio’s second time working with the Recording Academy, having previously designed the 2022 GRAMMY’s set in Las Vegas.

In his approach to designing the 65th GRAMMY Awards®, Julio Himede intended to recognize and celebrate the unique and various voices of the global music community. By putting the iconic gramophone center stage and the focal point of the design, Julio was determined to facilitate the experience in a monumental way. Since its inception in 1959, the gramophone has become recognized worldwide as a symbol of excellence and outstanding achievement in music. For the 2023 design, it was important to give the historical symbol a contemporary and coherent interpretation – marking a moment to be remembered for years to come. The gramophone serves as an entrance and stands as the conceptional hero in the set, not only to celebrate the prestigious award ceremony but also as a grand gesture to the creation of sound and music.  Incorporated within their set design, Julio partnered with world-renowned media artist Refik Anadol, who designed a bespoke AI-driven artwork for the occasion.

Julio Himede, Founder of Yellow Studio says: “It’s a great honor to be recognized by The Television Academy for the production design of The 65th Grammy Awards. It’s a privilege to be nominated alongside some of the most talented designers in the field and we would like to thank all the people who helped make this happen”.

Earlier this year, Julio served as the production designer for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, which was held in Liverpool on Saturday 13th May. To deliver the large-scale show to a global audience of over 160 million, the architecture of the set took inspiration from a wide hug that enfolds the Liverpool Arena – from above and below – opening its arms to Ukraine, and the show’s performers and guests from across the world.
