Assistant Technical Director, Deck, Wichita Music Theatre (Summer)

 The Assistant Technical Director is responsible for assisting the Technical Director in the implementation and supervision of the execution of the scenic load-in and load-out for all the productions. 

As the Deck ATD, this position also acts as the Run Crew Head for all performances and tech rehearsals. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Assist Technical Director in maintaining safety standards during stage operations. 
• Assist Technical Director in management of load-in, tech, and strike for all shows, giving detailed instructions to the deck crew of interns and IATSE stagehands. 
• Assist the TD in coming up with well thought-out load-in, load-out, and changeover plans in conjunction with other Department Heads. • Act as Run Crew Head for all tech rehearsals and performances. 
• Maintain all deck equipment as needed. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. 
• Any additional tasks as requested by the Technical Director, Director of Production. 

Qualifications And Skills: 

• 3 years’ experience as a Technical Director or Assistant Technical Director. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Ability to lead and supervise a crew. 
• Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings/schematics and disseminate information as needed.  
• Time management, adaptability, reorganizing, and planning while working under pressure. 
• Knowledge of automation, flying systems, special effects, or any other cross disciplinary knowledge is a plus. 
• Excellent communication, organization, collaborative and interpersonal skills. 
• Willingness to learn new techniques and methods in given field.

Head of Training, Association of British Theatre Technicians (UK)

The Association of British Theatre Technicians is the UK’s leading membership body for theatre and live event technical professionals. We support our members through training, publications, events and advocacy, and we work to uphold standards across the sector.

The Head of Training is a new role, coming in at an exciting and pivotal time for the organization. It marks the first time the ABTT has had a full time permanent role to lead and manage the ABTT training and education provision. This role will have strategic and operational oversight of the full portfolio of ABTT courses, including all teaching, delivery, quality assurance, curriculum and course development, and will lead on ensuring a high quality inclusive and industry-relevant training experience for all participants.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of the following:

● Managing a training function and of organizing, scheduling and managing projects and/or timetables
● Teaching, mentoring or leading training projects and/or working with participants
● Organizing own time effectively to meet deadlines and manage different priorities
● Working collaboratively and fostering good practices with participants and tutors
● Clear, effective communication, both written and oral
● Line management, with empathetic leadership and management skills
● Creating an inclusive and safe working environment for tutors and participants
● Experience in technical theatre is desirable but not essential.

Remote with travel. Salary: £45k - £50k (dependent on experience)
