Project Assistant – Production, SJ Lighting, Westlake CA
SJ Lighting is seeking a project assistant who appreciates and enjoys the challenges, responsibilities, and pleasures of working with a small, tightly knit team of passionate and committed people to accomplish extraordinary things.
Some Responsibilities
As a project assistant you will be responsible for working with the project lead designer to coordinate and deliver design documentation, assist with bidding and procurement of lighting equipment, and perform onsite commissioning of control systems. The project assistant will be working exclusively on permanent installations in fields such as, but not limited to, nightlife/nightclubs, pool decks, restaurants, theaters, and other hospitality related venues. The work primarily consists of internal design concept development, CAD drafting/asset management, procurement tracking, and lighting controls programming.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Vectorworks and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings (lighting plots, ground plans, RCPs, sections)
- Ability to quickly communicate design concepts with hand sketches
- Fundamental knowledge of lighting design concepts (color temperature, lighting angles, moving light functions)
- BFA/BA degree with a focus in Lighting Design, Stage Management, Production Management, Theatre Technology, Architectural Lighting, or related fields
- Must have a valid driver’s license, passport, ability to travel
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 3D modeling in Rhino, Sketchup, or similar
- Basic game development in Unreal Engine 4

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice – Theatre (Technical Director) to join our dynamic program during an exciting period of transformation and growth.
The successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of scenic construction and engineering, rigging and safety including knowledge in craft and properties. Experience with entertainment technology including Vectorworks, AutoCAD, automation and other show control systems, 3D printing and CNC fabrications technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and Innovation
Oversee all physical building aspects of Production including rigging, safety, and engineering for the Johnny Carson School.
Design and implement technical systems that support both conventional and experimental production methodologies.
Lead the integration of new production technologies into existing production processes.
Collaborate with Emerging Media Arts faculty to develop cross-program technical resources and workflows.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts in Technical Theatre, Entertainment Technology, or a closely related field; or, in exceptional cases, significant professional experience in lieu of a terminal degree.
At least two years of professional experience in technical direction for live entertainment, film, or emerging media productions.
Teaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent professional training experience.
Demonstrated expertise in both traditional theatrical craft and contemporary entertainment technology.
Strong project management and leadership skills.
At least five years of professional experience in technical direction for live entertainment, film, or emerging media productions.
