J. R. Clancy Achieves ISO 9001:2000 Recertification

For the third time since 2002, J. R. Clancy, Inc. has been recertified for the international quality standard ISO 9001:2000. J. R. Clancy is the only rigging company in the American technical theatre industry to achieve ISO 9001:2000 certification.

The company completed its first ISO audit in 2002 and became the first U.S. designer, manufacturer and installer of theatrical rigging to have its quality management system certified to the rigorous ISO 9001:2000 standard. Each year, J. R. Clancy undergoes an audit by the ISO Registrar, and a complete recertification audit is required every three years. The company has now completed and passed its third full audit.

The standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)—a worldwide federation of national standards bodies representing more than 150 countries—has grown from its original focus on manufacturing processes to a more holistic overview of a qualifying company’s entire enterprise. Today, ISO requires participating companies to improve their organizational performance through the following eight quality management principles:

· Customer focus
· Leadership
· Involvement of people
· Process approach
· System approach to management
· Continual improvement
· Factual approach to decision making
· Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

Implementation of an ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System covers all aspects of an organization's activities by identifying and defining its key processes, and their associated policies and procedures, providing the resources necessary to support the operation and control of these processes; monitoring, measuring and analyzing these key processes; and driving continual improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction, through internal audits, management reviews, and corrective and preventive actions.

“J. R. Clancy competes on a global scale. ISO 9001:2000 certification shows our customers and partners our commitment to a quality management standard that is recognized worldwide,” saysMike Murphy, executive vice president of J. R. Clancy. “Continual improvement is an integral part of our culture; it’s just the way we do business. We make improvements every day to our processes, our products and the service we provide our customers.

“Our mission is to Make Our Partners Successful (MOPS),” Murphy continues. “One way we do this is by providing our customers and partners with on-time, complete, and correct (OTCC) drawings and products every time. This performance goal is our promise to customers, and our ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System assures that we deliver on that promise.”
