Gaming engines like Unreal Engine (which is owned by Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite) have been key in the development of many metaverse experiences. And while Unreal is one of the most popular, its competitor Unity is also continuing to expand into entertainment experiences in the metaverse through a new partnership with event producer Insonmiac Events.
Insomniac is no stranger to the metaverse, having streamed its Electric Daisy Carnival festival in a virtual world on Roblox last year, and through its collaboration with Unity, it plans to develop a new persistent metaverse experience where its community of fans will be able to engage with live music performances and be immersed in “non-stop music and play.”
Gaming has been held up as the gold standard in the events industry when it comes to engaging audiences virtually, and it’s exciting to see more and more collaboration between gaming vets and big players in the entertainment space. Artists like deadmau5 have already established permanent themed worlds in the metaverse, and this partnership will show what’s possible for virtual entertinament experiences in 2022.
“Partnering with Insomniac Events is a fantastic opportunity for us here at Unity,” said Peter Moore, Senior VP and General Manager, Sports & Live Entertainment at Unity, in a statement. “Pasquale and his team are revolutionary and always looking to expand their vision and bring extra value to their community. This partnership is the beginning of a long relationship that we believe will usher in a new level of interactive and immersive experiences within the world of live entertainment.”
Insomniac Events Founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella added, “It is an honor to be partnered with an incredible company like Unity on this new journey. Our vision is to create a social experience in which everyone is a Headliner — where stories and music unite us in discovery, love and a true sense of belonging. Unity is helping us create a world’s first experience for our community as we work together to deliver the next level of what the metaverse can be for entertainment and music.”
