The International Association of Lighting Designers has announced the appointment of three newly elected members to its board of directors and two members elected to the membership committee:
* Mitchell Kohn, Highland Park, IL, is elected to a two-year term as Director of Finance
* Stefan R. Graf, Ypsilanti, MI, is elected to a two-year term as Director of Marketing & Communications
* Katherine C. Abernathy, N. Providence, RI, is elected to a three-year terms as Director at Large
Elected to serve for two years on the IALD membership committee are Faith E. Baum of Newark, NJ, and Graham Phoenix from London, England.
“We ran a diverse group of candidates representing ranges of experience. We all benefit from this kind of participation, and we are confident that the elected officials will ably guide us into the future,” according to Philip Gabriel, IALD nominations and elections committee chairman.
New Director of Finance Mitchell Kohn is the principal of Mitchell B. Kohn Lighting Design in Highland Park, IL. He has served on the IALD board in this and other capacities for ten years, and was treasurer of the IALD Education Trust. He is actively involved in the IES and became a Fellow of the IESNA in 1993.
Stefan R. Graf, the new director of marketing and communications, is a career professional lighting designer who is design director of his Michigan-based firm, Illuminart. He is active in the IALD sustainable design committee and has assisted in bringing awareness to the association through education seminars to professional associations and by helping produce the current IALD brochure and authoring articles for numerous international trade publications. Graf is also an active IES member.
New Director at Large Katherine C. Abernathy has been working in lighting since 1983 and opened her own firm, Abernathy Lighting Design, in 2001. Abernathy is an active member of several professional organizations. She serves on the IALD’s Ethics Committee and the LIRC, and she has served on many IES New England section committees. She is currently test committee chair for the NCQLP and is a member of the USITT and the DLF.
New Membership Committee member Faith E. Baum is Vice President of The Mintz Lighting Group in Newark, NJ. Graham Phoenix was appointed to the committee in 2003 to fill a position and now has been re-elected. He is a Director of Phoenix Large/lightmatters, a consultancy formed in 2000 in the UK.
The IALD, established in 1969, is an international organization dedicated to the profession of architectural lighting design. Based in Chicago and comprised of over 700 members throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia, the IALD’s role is to set the global standard for lighting design excellence.
