High End Systems Lights Ice Wars

High End Systems lights and control systems followed the world's top figure skaters in the CBS-TV special, "Ice Wars: USA vs. The World" which aired on Saturday, November 30.

LD John Broderick designed the program, specifying 70 Studio Beam®, 34 x.Spot® HO (High Output) and 12 Cyberlight®Turbo automated luminaires, controlled by a Wholehog®II and wing. Creative Stage Lighting supplied the gear, along with scrollers and conventionals. The show was taped at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH

The first half of the show focused on the technical aspects of skating, and for this, Broderick used Studio Beams and x.Spots for their powerful white light features and ability to color-correct on ice for the TV cameras. For the artistic portion in the second half, Broderick painted the ice using a range of color cues from all the fixtures. Other crew members include HES' Brad Schiller, programmer; Brian Stark, gaffer; Jeff Smith, crew chief/head electrician; Paul Mundrick, dimmers; Bill Pierce, rigger/electrician; Dylan Hains and Chad Lewis, electricians; and George Studnicky, moving light tech.
