Higgins Joins City Tech’s Entertainment Technology Department

Chris Higgins was recently appointed as the full-time Professor of Scenic Technology in City Tech’s unique Entertainment Technology Department at CUNY, Brooklyn.

Higgins brings to the position over 20 years of experience as a technical director and carpenter in regional theater, summer stock, touring, and commercial scene shops. “I am very pleased to be joining the faculty,” says Higgins, “and hope to bring the scene shop up to the level of the lighting, sound, video, and show control areas.”

Prior to joining the faculty at City Tech, Higgins held full-time teaching positions at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and at the University of Massachusetts’ Amherst campus. Most recently, Higgins worked professionally at a commercial scenic operation building scenery for Broadway shows and tours.

Higgins holds a BA in Theater Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MFA in Technical design and Production from the Yale School of Drama. Higgins is the second full- time City Tech faculty member who is also an active member of IATSE Local One, and Higgins’ appointment brings to 75% the proportion of full time faculty are also active IATSE members.
