Herbert Senn Dies; Set Designer Was 78

Set designer Herbert Senn died yesterday, the Cape Cod Times has reported. The cause was liver cancer. He was 78.

With his close friend and co-designer Helen Pond, Senn worked extensively in theatre, dance, and opera. Among their credits were the Broadway shows What Makes Sammy Run? (1964), the 1983 revival of Show Boat, and Oh, Coward! (1986). They designed many productions for Opera Company of Boston and also provided the set for the world premiere of Leonard Bernstein's Mass at the Kennedy Center in 1971. Other credits include the Boston Ballet's edition of The Nutcracker, and more than 350 productions for the Cape Playhouse in Cape Cod.
