Abbey Road Institute London, a specialist music production school founded by the renowned Abbey Road Studios, has partnered with GIK Acoustics to install professional acoustic treatments across its learning environments, equipping emerging engineers and producers with real-world studio acoustics experience.
Based at Angel Recording Studios in Islington, London and with dedicated studio space at Abbey Road, the Institute offers a wealth of training, recording and production spaces for their audio students as well as a commercial studio space, which welcomes major artists and film and TV projects.
The installation spans several production suites, two Tech Labs, and the dedicated student studio Angel Two as well as the commercial studio Angel One, helping create acoustically balanced environments for recording, mixing, production and critical listening training. As the production suites and ARI’s larger Tech Labs are built in existing regular shaped rooms, the team needed to control reflections between parallel walls.
GIK’s acoustic experts recommended treatments comprising more than 50 panels, including GIK FlexRange Bass Traps 90Hz and 70Hz, GIK Corner Bass Traps, and GIK Amplitude 80Hz diffusion front panels, which create a more randomized reflection pattern, resulting in a more controlled sound in the rooms.
The partnership will also include a series of educational workshops delivered by GIK’s specialists, covering acoustic design for home and professional studios. The sessions will help students better understand how to achieve accurate, consistent production environments across a range of studio spaces.
