Martin Professional is committed to developing cutting-edge technology to bring to the intelligent lighting market; a by-product of this is the teaching of new technology to the users of these products. To this end, Martin has created an annual Intelligent Lighting Technology Grant to be awarded to an accredited college or university in the US each year. In establishing this annual grant, Martin's goal is to make its technology available to more students and future lighting professionals, to generate increased exposure and knowledge of its products.
For 2001 the first grant recipient is Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. Martin Prekop, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, comments, "Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama is honored to be the first recipient of Martin's Intelligent Lighting Technology Grant. Martin's generosity will indeed impact the future of student lighting designers for years to come."
The grant, valued at $50,000, consists of a variety of fixtures and control products by Martin Professional, including the Show Designer virtual software design system and Lighting Director tracking system. Martin will also provide technical training and support as well as quarterly seminars on new emerging technologies and application discussions.
For future grants, applications will be accepted from colleges and universities throughout the year, with the selection of the winning school to be chosen by the Martin management team and board of directors at LDI each year.
