Fire Curtain Safety Standards Up For Review

BSR E1.22, Entertainment Technology - Fire Safety Curtain Systems, is available for public review until 5pm ET on 10 June 2003. This draft standard describes the materials, fabrication, installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of fire safety curtains and fire safety curtain systems used for theatre proscenium opening protection. The draft standard does not specify in what entertainment venues fire safety curtains must be used; those requirements are specified in other documents by other standards organizations, such as NFPA 101 and NFPA 5000.

The complete public review materials packet can be downloaded from the ESTA website at http://www.esta.org/tsp/E1-22inst.htm. The packet includes the draft standard, a comment form, and copies of the draft standards BSR E1.4 (manual rigging) and BSR E1.6 (powered hoisting systems), to which BSR E1.22 refers. These documents are still under development and comments on them are not being solicited at this time, but they are being provided so that BSR E1.22 can be reviewed in context.

People who do not have access to the ESTA website can request that the public review materials be sent to them by writing:
