Design Criteria
"AUT NIHILO" Tour uses the setting sun as a metaphor for emotional transition. Starting from dusk, light expands toward the stars, guiding the audience through five chapters: Beauty, The Unknown, Dreams, Life, and People.
Project Description
Surround lights, linear fixtures, and aerial beams dissolve the boundaries of the stage. Curved LED screens create a rich, layered horizon, with light beams fluidly shifting between the warm glow of sunset and an infinite starry sky.
Echoing Stefanie Sun’s music, the lighting captures youth, memories, and longing, preserving a delicate sense of intimacy even within a massive space. Every interplay of light becomes a fragment of memory, leading the audience beyond dusk.
Sustainability Approach
We used energy-efficient, reusable LED fixtures to reduce power consumption and heat emission without compromising visual impact. To minimize on-site energy use, we utilized lighting visualization software to pre-program effects in a virtual environment, streamlining setup time and reducing carbon output.
By optimizing fixture quantity and placement, we achieved rich visual expression with minimal resource use. Through these actions, we not only reduced the event’s environmental footprint but also demonstrated how stage lighting can be both impactful and sustainable.
Challenges and Solution
When an unexpected failure in the stage machinery threatened key components of the original lighting choreography, the production team executed a swift, high-stakes contingency protocol. Operating under intense time pressure, we conducted surgical real-time recalibrations and strategic fixture re-allocations—seamlessly absorbing the technical disruption without compromising the artistic depth or emotional impact of the visual experience. Far from being a setback, this challenge served as a powerful testament to the crew's extraordinary composure and problem-solving agility, while proving the profound resilience, versatility, and structural excellence of our design framework.
Equipment
To realize a grand and emotionally resonant visual landscape, the production relies on an extraordinarily robust, sophisticated lighting architecture and precision control system. The primary automated lighting rig features a massive deployment of high-output moving lights, strobe bars, and pixel-mappable fixtures, including 72 ACME AECO 15 (38CH), 342 PLIC MINLUN S-2000 (96CH), 120 PLIC MINLUN S-2000 (8CH), 6 ACME CM-800Z (17CH), 184 ACME XL 500 BWS (26CH), 298 ACME XP 550 BWS (26CH), 372 ACME TB-5 IP (71ch), 26 ACME PIXEL LINE 3 IP (68ch), and 12 8-Molefay audience blinders (1ch), providing unmatched intensity, depth, and dynamic visual layering across the stage environment.
At the command core, 3 grandMA3 Full-Size consoles running version 3.9.60.74 deliver rock-solid stability and frame-accurate programming, supported by dedicated CCTV monitoring and Program (PGM) broadcast displays for complete operational situational awareness. The follow spot and communications ecosystem integrates 14 spot operators using 2 ACME Aeco Track follow spots (19ch) and 12 5K follow spots, backed by customised intercom channels—including 1 CUE MAN line, 14 operator channels, and 3 production crew lines—alongside comprehensive LEE colour correction filters (#203, #206, #248, #109, #020, #702; 12 sheets each) for precise key lighting and skin tone rendering.
Atmospheric design is powered by 4 DMX-controlled Antari F-7 hazers tied directly to the lighting desk, 2 MDG THE ONE haze generators, and 6 KS FAN heavy-duty wind machines to construct rich, tactile light beams and immersive volumetric haze. Finally, the technical infrastructure incorporates 2 audio-to-lighting sync systems for timecode-driven show precision, alongside 3 IEM Pack systems to guarantee seamless coordination and real-time execution throughout the live performance.
